Our nation has seen much turmoil throughout this election period. We are reminded in the Declaration of Independence:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with inherent and inalienable rights; that among these, are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; that to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; that whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness." --Declaration of Independence as originally written by Thomas Jefferson, 1776. While there is no doubt divisiveness has principally dominated the election cycle, one thing is for certain - we are ONE NATION. As we accept the results of the election, we must keep in mind that it is up to each one of us as citizens of this great nation to come together, to work for the common good of each citizen, and to protect the liberties and freedoms that this nation stands for.
At this time of year when we give thanks as a people, let us remember to reach out in brotherhood, unity, and service. We live in a nation of great possibilities. As we work together and respect each others' inalienable rights, we will continue the great legacy of freedom this country stands for.
We thank the brave men and women who have sacrificed so much to give us the privilege of having a voice and a vote.
